|The article focuses on the problems related to economic education, first and foremost, the teaching of the economic theory in economic universities and departments. The authors discuss objective contradictions in the development of the students’ economic competence, stress the importance of improving the structure of basic economic disciplines and the increase of the number of hours to teach them — the figure that is currently decreasing even for economic majors. The article draws attention to the tendency towards formalization in the stimulation of the educational process, to the lack of clear distinction in the subjects and research methods between the two disciplines, political economy and economics, and stresses the importance to raise the role of the fundamental economic science in the teaching process|
