| The article describes the process of hotel business formation in Primorsky territory, which is considerably shaped by historical, social, economic, and other factors. Against the background of economic transformations in the territory, the authors analyze the demand for hotels and other means of placement starting with the period of foundation of Vladivostok as a military port in 1860 till the present time, when the city acquired the status of the Russian center of the Asian-Pacific Region. The article explains the low demand of hotel enterprises in pre-revolutionary and Soviet periods, and emphasize that in the post-Soviet time the structure of hotel economy was renovated, and both Russian and foreign investment into hotel construction has increased.
