| The scholarly discovery of Aristoteles Latinus, made by Amable Jourdain, is one of the leading directions in human intellectual history. The author of the article selected excerpts of the Introduction and Chapter I of the book to acquaint the reader to A. Jourdain’s work, thus introducing the Russian-language speaking Humanities into one of the most significant academic discourses in Europe and America, defining their distinct historical nature. Amable Jourdain collected unique materials for the history of Aristotelianism in the XII-XIII c., and among other things pointed out the importance of the Stagirite’s philosophy in the XIX c., when new intellectual horizons were opening up, as well as new geopolitical and economic realities. The author also addresses at the epoch of XII-XII c., when new ideas on social and economic relations and the ways of the European civilization came into being — particularly, in various regions of the Mediterranean. The article also dwells on the traditions and linguistic cultures as components of the holistic knowledge.
