| The article focuses on the cognitive center of forecasting, planning and designing of such a large-scale and complex social unit as region. Functioning, dynamics and external impact of spatial economic systems is viewed through the concept of nested spaces within the methodology of the systemic image of society as a complex of interacting spatial structures.
