| The article focuses on the reasons and dynamics of migration-related desires of extra-mural students living and working in Nizhniy Novgorod and its region. The author uses data collected during his research in 2002–2003, 2010, 20111 and 2018. The article discusses the major reasons that produce the desire to immigrate from Russia — or the lack thereof. The author regards the growing migration-related desire of the young people as a serious societal problem and argues that the main condition that can change the situation for the best is for the young people to feel that they are demanded by their country.
