| The article discusses spatial aspects of the demographic development in the Russian Federation to distinguish specific features of various territories, including Baikal region. The study aims at improving social and demographic politics of the regions and of the country as a whole. The authors apply methods of demographic analysis, econometric modelling, table- and graph methods of data presentation. The research allowed to distinguish differences among various subjects of the Russian Federation based on gender, age, type of population reproduction, and structure of mortality caused by various reasons. The authors formulate recommendations that can help decrease the level of mortality of working-age population in Baikal region, characterized through a profound socio-demographic crisis that produces a negative impact upon the region’s sustainability | Key words: demographic development, demographic load, socio-demographic politics, mortality, Baikal region | Pages: 141 - 145 |
