| The article analyzes the impact produced by a number of structural changes in the country’s economy upon the increase of its national competitiveness. Regressive analysis of data related to 90 countries over the period from 2007 to 2015 showed that increase in capital intensiveness and decrease in labor intensiveness in agriculture, low- and medium-technological industry as well as the sector of services lead to the decrease of economy’s competitiveness. The authors argues investments in these sectors should be done in a strictly compensatory way, i.e. to the degree that does not impact the level of their capital intensiveness. At the same time, state-led stimulation of the high technology sector, irrespective of the degree of its development, should be seen as an effective tool that is capable of increasing the competitiveness of the national economy at large. | Key words: industrial politics, the role of the state, high-tech industry, national competitiveness | Pages: 52 - 56 |
