| Changes in the system of evaluation of labor efficacy of a scholar, as well as transformation of hiring conditions lead to scholars’ professional deformation. The authors subject to the critical analysis the impact of harsh indices that are nowadays applied to the evaluation of efficacy (productivity) of scholarly activity, such as getting of grants, attraction of external sources, scientometrics, etc. Specific attention is paid to the deformation of the motivation of the professional scholarly activity: instead of the leading cognitive-epistemological motif, there comes a formal scientometric motif that transform the notional part of scholarly research. The authors address the explanatory concept of James Scott’s high modernism, according to which the response to the reforms in the academic profession consists in the acquisition of practical situationally embedded skills that allow adapting to any innovations and changes. These skills, or “metis-like actions” help minimize the harm incurred by reformers, fulfil bureaucratic requirements and stay in the profession. | Key words: non-stable hiring, precariat, academic profession, effective contract, professional deformation | Pages: 209 - 212 |
