Khakomov R. S.
Director of Sh. Mardzhani Institute of Hisotry Tatarstan Academy of Science (Kazan’)

To the issue of the model of Russian federalism
The article discusses general and specific features of federalism determined by various historical, political, cultural, religious, ethnic, and economic peculiarities of various federative states. The author argues that with regards to its complex history, as well as territorial and ethnic structure, “populism” still remains the basis of Russian state organization (irrespective of the form of government). Consequently, the formula that the Russian state organization assumes now may be called “popular federalism.”
