| 2012 marks the 120th anniversary of a prominent Russian economist with a tragic fate, N.D. Kondratjev, as well as 90 years since the first publication of his famous book “Bread Market and its Regulation during the War and Revolution.” This book was the first to launch the academic series “Monuments of Economic Thought” in 1991. The book describes the development of the Russian bread market, indispensable for the country’s economy and social life. N.D. Kondratjev analyzes the historical prerequisites for the formation of the bread market, difficulties of its development, its institutional structure. The first chapters of the book were written immediately after the fall of the Provisional Government; the book as a whole was completed by the end of 1918 | Key words: N.D.
