| The article address a question much discusses in relation to crisis-relate shocks in various national economies: “Is it the right economic theory that determines the counters and lays foundations for economic development?” The author gives a brief analysis of the most popular economic conceptions of the recent past, discusses the possibilities of their use in theoretical and methodological thinking at the beginning of the XXI c., and stresses that in spite of all changes contemporary economic liberalism is deeply rooted in Smith’s doctrine, which is responsible for its limitations.
