| The article discusses the correspondence between currently used methods of calculation of the base rates for the rent of state-owned real estate and the current socio-economic conditions. To do this, the authors describe the genesis of rent- and land relations in the country; analyze the relevant legal base and compare Russian and international practice of determining the cost of real estate rent and the order of calculations of the base rates of rent with regards to the main types of real estate possessed by the state.
