| The article presents a comparative analysis of drivers and obstacles on the say of ESG strategies implementation in Russia and Kazakhstan, with the accent on the large-scale business that exhibited the dominance of external, including international, incentives towards this process. In the course of research, the authors distinguished specific features characteristic to the two countries, such as the requirement of higher transparency of companies on the part of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), as well as the new tasks to support the foundation “To the people of Kazakhstan” that aims at a systemic problem solution in the spheres of health care, education and social support. Russian specificity consists in tough competition, including that for more beneficial investment conditions, and the use of various forms of target motivation by the state. However, both countries share a number of specific problems areas, such as the insufficient systematicity of the measures implemented. As a result of this, joining the ESG initiative has not yet become a means of deep transformation in the considerable part of the business world. Another problem is the necessity for a more active participation of large-scale companies in the struggle of still growing socio-economic inequality. | Key words: Kazakhstan, aims of sustainable development, ESG-strategies, business responsibility, state support, Russia and Kazakhstan, Global Risk Report | Pages: 163 - 168 |
