| The article discusses approaches to the term “hydrogen economy” in the publications of Russian and foreign authors focusing on hydrogen issues. The author presents various definitions of the “hydrogen economy” that regard it as an economic system, where hydrogen plays the role of the key energy source. The article analyzes the structure of hydrogen consumption and stresses the fact that hydrogen is currently used not only for energy production, but has a non-energy application as well (e.g., petrochemicals, ammonium and methanol production, metallurgy).
