ECONOMIC PROBLEMS OF REGIONS AND BRANCH COMPLEXES
Kulikov D. V.
PhD student, Chair of Global Economy and International Economic Relations, St. Petersburg State University of Economics

Genesis of the term “hydrogen economy” and its application in the contemporary economic science (Russia, St. Petersburg)
The article discusses approaches to the term “hydrogen economy” in the publications of Russian and foreign authors focusing on hydrogen issues. The author presents various definitions of the “hydrogen economy” that regard it as an economic system, where hydrogen plays the role of the key energy source. The article analyzes the structure of hydrogen consumption and stresses the fact that hydrogen is currently used not only for energy production, but has a non-energy application as well (e.g., petrochemicals, ammonium and methanol production, metallurgy). The author presents a new definition of the term “hydrogen economy” that includes hydrogen’s use outside of power production.
Key words: hydrogen, hydrogen economy, hydrogen industry, hydrogen power production
