| The article examines the problem of assessing the level of monopolization in the present-day Russian production. The widely used Lerner index does not reflect the process of monopolization in the long term in an inflationary environment. The Herfindahl-Hirschman index directly characterizes only the prerequisites for the formation of monopolies. The author demonstrates that monopolization manifests itself in an overestimation of price relative to value as a measure of labor costs embodied in a commodity and proposes to use the labor intensity indicator to measure the cost of socially necessary labor time. The article argues that the difference between the increase in the price index for products in the public production sector and the percentage change in the labor intensity of these products over a certain period of time can become a measure of monopolization. The corresponding indicator is calculated for the basic sectors of Russian production. | Key words: monopolization of production, price, cost, labor intensity, profit | Pages: 66 - 69 |
