| The article examines the chronology of the formation and change of leaders of the world order and how this affected the development of the monetary system. It shows how important it is to determine, which actions preceded these changes in the past and what advantage was gained by the state, which was able to competently introduce innovations. Based on the study of economic history, the author demonstrates that at various times the leaders of the world order were the Netherlands, Great Britain, the USA, France, Spain and the USSR. The competent integration of new financial instruments helped these countries not only to become leaders, but also to exert a huge economic and political influence on other countries.
