| The authors analyze the role of engineering personnel in modern organizations, the dynamics of supply and demand in the labor market, as well as changes in the profile of specialists over the past decade. The article summarizes factors of importance and relevance of personnel conservation, such as: the constantly increasing value of intellectual work and its results, a high level of competition in the market for qualified personnel, increasing variability of specialties and specializations, the need to ensure business continuity. Based on the analysis of the experience of the largest and most successful foreign (Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google) and Russian (Yandex, Tinkoff, Mail.ru Group) companies, as well as the authors’ own research, including the one involving focus group surveys, the article identifies the main sources of motivation that impact the retention of highly qualified personnel.
