| | | The article discusses the economic expediency of investments in the fire protection system with regard to elevator and storage facilities aiming at strengthening food safety, reducing economic losses from fires and optimization of managerial decisions in the field of fire safety. The author analyzes regulatory acts and empirical data and distinguishes the key problems of the elevator and storage facilities, including outdated infrastructure, the absence of automated fire extinguishing systems and ineffective ventilation. The study shows that modernization of fire protection systems reduces the risks of accidents by 70–80%. The author develops a cost optimization algorithm that involves the installation of automatic fire extinguishing systems, modernization of ventilation and the introduction of early fire detection systems. The article discusses priorities of investment into the fire protection of elevator and storage facilities, proposes an algorithm that connects the technical aspects of fire safety with macroeconomic and social consequences, and develops a methodology for calculating the adequacy of forces and means for fire extinguishing at elevator and storage facilities with regard to the present-day standards.
