| | | This analytical study focuses on the approaches of calculating environmental damage as an element of assessment of environmental risks. The author discusses legislative and legal framework for determining the magnitude of environmental damage in the Russian Federation, highlights its features and disadvantages. The article dwells on the approaches of calculating environmental damage in China, including not only the costs of eliminating and restoring the ecosystem or its individual elements, but also on the costs of investigating and evaluating environmental damage. Results of the study can form the basis for the creation of a unified methodology for calculating environmental damage, which will systematize existing legislation and form a single conceptual apparatus.
