| | | Energy resources are of strategic importance. Since the Industrial Revolution, the desire to have sufficient energy resources to support one’s country and profitable cooperation with other states has been one of the driving forces of the competition globally. France is a country dependent on energy imports, and therefore it is forced to build a complex trust-based system of cooperation with exporting countries, as well as to develop opportunities for obtaining energy from alternative sources in order to ensure its own energy security. French cooperation with the Maghreb countries plays a role in both of the above areas. However, while France is a dependent state in terms of energy resources, then it is a leader as far as technologies of renewable energy sources is concerned; France is a leader capable of sharing experience and technologies. The aim of this study is to describe the place of the energy factor in relations between France and the Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia), to identify political and economic benefits for each country, and to describe opportunities and obstacles for their further energy cooperation. | | Key words: international relations, Africa, Maghreb countries, France, energy factor | | Pages: 152 - 155 |
